Has anyone ever taken Lexapro for a anxiety disorder? How does it make you feel? I have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. The doctor wants me to try Lexapro and I don't know if I want to. I worry all the time about little things, I never sleep and get sick to my stomach at the though t of having to fly.

denise n replied: "Yes I have and Yes it worked.....Watch your weight with this type of medication.."

Nina replied: "Hi. I took it for a while but had to switch to something different b/c I gained a lot of weight when I was taking it. I don't remember much else about it, that wasn't that long ago so the side effects I had must not have been too bad. I think I felt a little "spaced out"."

linda bug replied: "It may work for you because everyone is different ,but my daughter took it and it made her worse so they put her on a mild dose of prozac which seems to be working for her and i have severe anxiety and i have been on buspar and it worked for quite a while for me just try it and see how you feel and it takes about a week to get into your system and if it does't help you ask the doctor to try you on something else!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!"

WiserAngel replied: "I've been on Lexapro for 2.5 weeks. It has taken care of the depression, but has made the anxiety a little worse. They said that can happen in the first 2-3 weeks. I have been taking Lorazepam to supplement things until the Lexapro can take care of the anxiety as well. I think people gain weight on this med because they are feeling better and eat more. I don't think there are any clinical studies that show weight gain as a side effect. My only side effect is a dry mouth and a little constipation. It's better than the reaction I had to Effexor ER though. You have to find the one that works best for you. Good luck."

robinunger2000 replied: "My doctor put me on Lexapro for general anxiety disorder. I kept going to him telling him that I couldn't sleep or wasn't hungry, you know. After many many times he put me on that. The first week or so was horrible. I was like a walking zombie, I couldn't even think straight, and I'm not kidding when I say that. However after the first week the medicine started to work and after a month it was in full swing. I felt wonderful. I was back to sleeping normal hours, my appetite was back, but not so much that I gained any weight. I stopped worrying about irrational things or things out of my control. I had to stop taking it because i didn't have enought money to go back to the doctor and have him write me a refill, but I almost have those bills paid off and plan on going back on it. I didn't have any withdrawl symptoms either. Give it a try because it really made a noticable difference in my life!"

how can you tell anxiety from the stomach flu? Tonight I ate 2 big bowls of red beans for the first time in a long time. I am currently on lexapro for an anxiety disorder, so I'm usually really bloated after eating anyways. Tonight, though, about an hour and a half after I ate the beans, I got really bloated and then when I had a bowel movement, it was hard at first, then diarrhea like, and then I couldn't go at all and just had gas. Now, i'm in a massive state of panic and am keeping myself worked up. I am a complete hypochondriac, so every little ache freaks me out. Do I have anything to worry about or was it the beans that made me temporarily messed up. I can't sleep because I'm freaking myself out so bad. Please answer my question and help me. Thank you.

tribekat replied: "Here is something you can do. Sit in a comfortable chair in a quiet room. Notice your breath. Inhale into your belly and exhale slowly. Soften the muscles in your face. Let your fingers curl into your palms. Keep breathing into your belly. On the 10th inhale, hold your breath in for 2 counts, and exhale for 4 counts. If your stomach still hurts, you have indegestion and it isn't just anxiety. To help you sleep, lay on your back and put a pillow or two under your knees. Make sure your feet are warm by putting on socks, it's impossible to fall asleep with cold feet. Keep breathing deeply. You can't get the flu from beans, at least we know that! Good luck."

Anxiety and Panic problem causing stomach problems? Ok, school is starting tomorrow and this summer I have been dealing with anxiety and panic attack problems that were brought on by a medication I was taking. I went to the doctor and am now on Lexapro for my anxiety problems. I have been on the meds for 2 weeks and feel a little better and a little more in control but I am still having some problems. Anytime I am in a crowded area like a store and forced to stay for some reason or another I have a panic attack. Now that I am on the medicine I am in a little more control so the panic isn't as severe, but since school is starting I know I am going to be stuck in a classroom and I am worrying that the panic is going to return. My biggest issue is that when I panic I feel like I am going to be sick so that makes me worry more, even though I never do actually get sick. I am taking nexium for my stomach aches but was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with the feeling sick when in a public place and unable to get away. Thanks.

Q dawg replied: "y u panicin there nuthin rong wit school or the store im the 1 that shood have those probs i have to lie to keep from gettin jumped cuz ppl like to lie and stuff it gets soooooooooo anoyin o well i hope i helped"

Hope replied: "Tomorrow --- I'm not sure you'll have time before the first day of classes....... There is a proceedure you can do that can help with making modifications for you, so that you can go to school and not be penalized for doing things a little differently than most kids, in order to accomodate your problem. Go to your Dr. Ask him to write a note to your school, and to actually speak on the phone with your school counselor. Ask your Dr. or therapist to write down specific accomodations that can be made to help you lessen the anxiety and panic while you learn new skills to deal with it. ((KEEP A COPY FOR YOURSELF)) At school you need to meet with your counselor (it would have been much more easier to do this before school starts), hand over the Dr.s note - and discuss how the school might be able to assist in making accomodations that would assist you in having a successful school year as you are learning to live a life where you will become less anxious. (In therapy or group therapy) Suggested accomodation: Permission to change classes after the bell rings -- without being counted as "Tardy". This will allow you to remain in your previous classroom while the whole crowd is in the halls, and then as the bell rings, you can step out into a hall with fewer people out there, scooting quickly to your next class, arriving just a minute or two after the bell rings. Try to keep some crackers with you, and eat one between each class. This will help to settle your stomach."

Ashley T. replied: "it may be that you show emotiona physically like i do, whenever im upset and i dont get anything out i get REALLY bad stomach cramps until i talk. so just find someone you can talk to about everything, like a parent or a best friend whenever you feel something like this. as for the panic attacks, find your "happy place". mine is out under the stars with my boyfriend holding me. just think as hard as you can, also explain to your teachers about your problems. they should understand. i really hope i helped, if you have any more questions email me."

Im on Lexapro for anxiety, and it's fine, but it's causing nausea, anything I can do besides pepto bismol? I take a Lexapro every morning, and it's seems to be working fine, but it's making me slightly sick to my stomach, any ideas/home remedies?

George replied: "Dude, taking any medication in empty stomach will cause nausea.. Anyway.. Lexapro is pretty new to the market and known for less side effects than any other similar drugs out there. 1. You need to give it some time before your body get use to it. Talk with your doctor to go about what doseage is good for you to start with. 2. Try taking it at night before you go to bed instead of in the morning to see if your nausea settles down. 3. If you can.. without hurting yourself of course :) cut the little pill in half (its going to be tough but worth it a try) take half of a pill in the morning and half in the evening. Long as you can the doseage you are on per day; its fine to do that. Just think about it.. women have this kind of feeling least once a month.. just glad that this is temp."

Feisty Italian Nurse replied: "Ginger works wonders for nausea, and it comes in many forms: ginger tea, ginger chews, ginger hard candies, ginger crystals, ginger snaps (hee hee). It really works."

staindgardener replied: "they sale nausea relief liquid at most drug stores over the counter, i have some, it's CVS store brand......also you could talk to your doctor about taking the medication at night, letting it dissolve while you are asleep might help.........i used to take lexapro 40 mg a day, it didn't work for me, so now i take other meds that "kinda" help...... i still can barely leave my house without a panic attack, i hope it works for you"

How long will side effects of Lexapro last? I was prescribed Lexapro for anxiety this past week, and just took the first 10mg pill last night at around 8 p.m., right after I ate dinner. I immediately felt sick to my stomach and nauseous and couldn't get to sleep. Around midnight, I vomited and had some diarrhea. Just curious if anyone else has experienced these symptoms, and how many days I should expect to have them before contacting my doctor? Should I continue to take the medication throughout the weekend?

Kelly R replied: "my boyfriend had taken that and while he did not suffer any of your symptoms, he did expierience sexual side effects. You should wait out the weekend then call the doctor"

Is it okay that my boyfriend just stopped taking Lexapro without weaning himself off them? He has been on Lexapro for anxiety since October, not sure how strong his pills were but he said he upped the dosage about 3 months ago. He ran out of them on Monday or Tuesday and he couldn't get a new pre ion that day. He hasn't taken it for a few days because he hates the way they make him feel, is it alright that he just quit without asking a doctor or anything? He's going through withdrawal, he's dizzy, nauseous, tired, and his stomach feels weird.

Lori replied: "he needs to go visit his doctor ASAP you should never ever stop any type of medication without a doctors order, in fact.. suicide could come into play.. and that isn't a good thing especially when you are using anti -depression medications or the like. He needs to be honest with his doctor and tell him how they make him feel and tell him that he wishes to have a lower doseage or to change the pill altogether he must get to the doctor ASAP dear, its serious..I should have never just stopped taking them.."

ANXIETY MEDS for a weak stomach? please help? Does anyone know a good anxiety/antidepressant thats low dose and is not hard on the stomach. I have tried lexapro and zoloft and both cause diarrhea or make me throw up. Does anyone have experience with a med like that that is easy on the stomach. I really need some suggestions from someone who has experience with this issue. thank you! anything you can offer me that would help id appreciate

bisquedog replied: "buspar"

waikiwinz replied: "If your medication is causing such a severe reaction, it must be causing you even MORE anxiety. How awful for you. maybe your body is trying to tell you something. I have significantly reduced my extreme anxiety, which has affected my life for the past two years. I have done it with very gentle, naturopathic solutions. Magnesium supplements work effectively for anxiety, as does Rescue Remedy, and you can obtain these from any health store. They both really helped me a lot, as has learning to slow down my breathing, by holding my breath for a count of ten before and after inhaling. Try also giving up anything with caffeine and artificial sweeteners, and maybe going for a ten or fifteen minute walk every day. Anxiety really can be helped with these simple things, and you don't need to line the pockets of the drug companies. I think the key to it is that in doing this, we're taking control of our anxiety, instead of the other way around. I think that's a great mental hurdle. All the best to you."

jamferris replied: "I've had experience with that issue. All I can tell you is that you haven't taken it long enough. In fact you may be anxious just to take your medicine and that is the reason you are getting sick. Been there, done that. Relax, take your dose as prescribed. You will feel better."

Prilosec and big anxiety and panics? I'm taking prilosec but before I took nexium and had big heart skippings, anxiety, stomach pains, cant to sleep, tired, weight lose. And as I mentioned I m on Prilosec now and I feel anxiuos again.I have GERD and I dont know what to do.I got Lexapro for anxiety but not taking because in leaflet says dont take Lexapro ir you taking Prilosec (omeprazole) is there is better medicine with less side efects for GERD?I'm out of control...

lala 08 replied: "my sister is taking celexa she likes it ... my cousin took prilosec and she said the dentist said it was messing up her teeth ... my friend is taking zoloft and she likes it ... but she has no desire for sex... a lot of inf i hope i helped"

Donnie O replied: "Nexium and Prilosec are very similar. You might want to ask your doctor about Protonix. It is a very good medicine for gerd that I have taken. I am not a doctor, and I sure don't want to advise you as one, but my doctor told me several things to try like elevating the head of my bed, avoiding certain foods, stop smoking etc. I hope this helps as I know Gerd is miserable not to mention funny heat beats."

Went off lexapro one month ago -- suddenly having major anxiety: related? i began taking lexapro in december of 2007 for post partum depression (i also have a history of anxiety and am a recovered/recovering anorexic.) i took lexapro for about 6 1/2 months, and then tapered myself off. i had NO problem with the tapering -- even though i did it very quickly -- and felt fine for weeks. now, about a month later, i have started having major physiological anxiety. i have a constant nervous stomach and feel a little obsessive about some random things (none of them related to my baby). i am wondering if the nervousness is in response to going off the drug? has anyone had this experience? why would it take a month before i felt this way? also, these are different symptoms than those for which the lexapro was prescribed. when i went on lexapro i had been depressed, irritable, and weepy. this is total anxiety: nervous, jittery, a bit paranoid.

jd3080 replied: "Of course this is why you are feeling this way. You went off the meds and they were keeping you from feeling this way. Lexapro worked great for me, but my body got used to it and it finally stopped working. Your best bet is to talk to the doc who prescribed the Lexapro in the first place."

Bradley's MoM replied: "It took a month because it was still in your system for that long. I was on lexapro for quite a while and I know exactly what you are talking about. Lexapro, like all anti depressants take at least three weeks to leave your system. By the fourth week you are "lexapre free" and really feeling it. BTW very cute pic of Ruby!!"

Pegs PAC replied: "No, the lexapro is long gone from your system. Lexapro is prescribed for both depression and anxiety. I suspect what has happened is that having gone off the lexapro you are once again having major anxiety episodes. Talk to your doctor about going back on the medicine. Sometimes, we have to stay on our medications for a bit longer so we can work through the issues that are causing out depression and anxiety and learn better methods of handling our anxiety and panic. You know, I am facing doing the same thing...so you are not alone."

bobby0512 replied: "You should see a doctor. Please take this into consideration. It worked for me, although I am not you. I had overwhelming anxiety. It turned out to be my use of Splenda. Yup Splenda. How could something that taste so good, be so bad? I like to say sucralose, not Splenda, because that is what Splenda is. And it is in a lot of stuff. Sadly, the package doesn't have to say Splenda or diet to have sucralose in it. You have to read labels. So, you might be using it and don't even know it! Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it, including overwhelming anxiety, depression, mood swings, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues and more. Go ahead, google: anxiety splenda or anxiety sucralose or insomnia splenda or insomnia sucralose The slogan, "Made from sugar..." is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons. carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air"

anxiety...? I have always had depression and anxiety problems. I really dont like talking to doctors about it. I use to smoke pot for the anxiety and have stopped doing that for 2 1/2 years now. I have tried vitamins and exercise to deal with the anxious feeling. It has been livable for a while but its is getting really bad. I feel like im sick to my stomach a lot and get really moody. when I get depressed I clean (I try to channel my anxiety in a healthy way basically distracting myself) and I have gotten to the point where my house seems dirty to me even after I attack it with bleach. I would say a little ocd on the cleaning. LOL... I am always tired and I dont feel good. I HATE anti depressants such as lexapro, zoloft, ect... they make me feel like I am a different person who just does not care about anything. What should I do? Is there other medications for this? This has been going on since i was 13 I am 22 now I dont mind taking medications I just need something that works (does not make you feel like a zombie). I get really paranoied to (thats why i stopped smoking pot). I dont even really talk to my boyfriend about this. I feel like i should not feel this way and no one need to know my problems. I also quit smoking 7 months ago and in the past 2 months i get this feeling like im about to go down a big hill on a rollercoaster ( cant really put it in words) maybe that has to do with it?

Chuckie replied: "Hi Snooks! Hiya. I am kinda similar to you. I have suffered from depression and anxiety and panic disorder for a LONG time. ANd I have been on so many different antidepressants that I really thought I would NEVER found one that could work. It is called Medication-resistant depression. I got some good relief from WellButrin. Also called Bupropion or Zyban, And it is also the medication that Doctors give people to quit smoking. It helped me ALOT. But, you know what else helped?? Going to a "12-step" group like AA. I know...you are thinking...I'm NOT an alcoholic, but I actually came to the conclusion that I was ADDICTED TO BE DEPRESSED!! Think about it...When you get depressed, you get the attention of others, people feel sorry for you...Doctors try to treat you, people generally sorrow for you, yadadadadad. And AA is NOT a bad thing. It is a 12 step program that I think is a GOOD, SOLID way for ANYONE to live their lives. IT is JUST A WAY to live. You don't even have to talk, but just listen, and when someone else talks, listen to what they say, but just hear it without the ALCOHOL in it, and see if ANYTHING clicks. Hey...maybe it will hit you more than you might think. Hi, I'm Charles, and I am addicted t being Depressed;>:>:>: Welcome, Charles!!"

Thumper replied: "i have axiety and depression too, they put me on drugs and i hated it, so instead i tried exercising and other stuff but what really works for me is music, it really can change my mood,on my ipod i have playlists like "calm" "happy" "relaxing" try different music and see how it affects you."

Jadee V replied: "I recommend charomile tea or sound relaxation like cds of ocean sounds. My mom used to be very high strung but these help her out. Hmm...waterpainting? I had a friend who had anxiety attacks or panic attacks time to time I did some research and considered getting him a zenboard but it's something you might want to look into. I don't know old you are but Vitamin B-12 dots are said to help anxiety and metabolism. I added a link to the zen board if you want to look into it. So good luck ... and I do sudoku when I'm stressed."

RetarDed Jackie replied: "lol i feel like a zombie without medication.. i also used to be depressed btw."
